Explosive Flame is one of Palutena's Neutral Special Moves via customization in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, and her Side Special Move in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Palutena creates a fireball directly in front of her.
Overview[]
Palutena points her staff forward and announces "Explosive Flame!" as a fireball materializes in front of her a set distance away from her. The fireball has a vortex effect, drawing opponents close. If it makes contact, it will trap the opponent for some time before exploding, launching them slightly and dealing 6% with fiery damage. If Palutena was moving after inputting, the explosion will appear in relation to where the button was pressed instead of where Palutena is at. Explosive Flame is Palutena's only Neutral Special Move with KO potential, as it can KO middleweights at 173%. However, it has considerable startup lag and goes a short distance, making it easy to predict and avoid altogether.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Explosive Flame was relegated as her default Side Special Move, granting Palutena another long-ranged projectile. It now deals more damage, and as a new property where its range can be extended by inputting Explosive Flame like a smash attack. With Explosive Flame's buffs, Palutena can ledgetrap opponents, safely zone them out from a distance, intercept landings, and KO opponents at reasonable percents, giving her a very formidable zoning game.
Origin[]
Explosive Flame is one of the many Powers from Kid Icarus: Uprising. It is usable in both single player and multiplayer. Using it causes a flaming explosion to take place in front of the player affecting all opponent in its range. The explosion repeatedly hits all opponents inside of it and inflicts the burn status. It is much larger and more devastating in Kid Icarus: Uprising than it is in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.
