“ | On the ground, unleash a powerful beam forward. In the air, the beam will angle downward. It has a long range that can hit up to three fighters. | ” |
—Description from Ultimate's Move List. |
Devil Blaster is Kazuya's neutral special move.
Overview[]
Kazuya transforms into Devil Kazuya to fire a laser beam from the third eye on his forehead, which travels the length of small stages such as Battlefield and Final Destination. The beam is shot in a straight line and can go through up to three opponents; however, each time the beam passes through a character, its damage output decreases significantly. The beam itself can be aimed higher or lower, especially to catch opponents in the air or opponents who are shorter or ducking. The beam can also be fired while Kazuya is airborne, but will fire at a downwards angle; the aiming can also be done in the air, in both a lower angle or straight ahead.
Like with all energy-based projectiles, it can be Reflected, Absorbed, or Pocketted.
Origin[]
Devil Blaster is a move introduced in Tekken 2 (originally localized as Flying Killer Beam) that only Devil and Angel could use and is one of the few projectile-type moves in the series. The attack is a simple but unblockable laser that fires from the forehead after Devil and Angel hover themselves in the air, and any opponents hit take 50 damage and crumple. However, due to how high Devil and Angel have to be to execute the move, it leaves them with a wide window of vulnerability.
There are several variations to the attack; one is named Inferno, where Devil and Angel simply fire the beam straight forward while standing on the ground; another, called Air Inferno, is simply Inferno but aimed at a higher angle; and Reverse Devil Blaster, where Devil and Angel quickly fly behind the opponent before firing the laser. Smash utilizes Inferno and Air Inferno for the grounded attack and the regular Devil Blaster for the aerial version.
The attack wouldn't be used by Kazuya until Tekken Tag Tournament 2 and Tekken 7, as it became part of his Devil Transformation stance ability. Devil Jin also gains his own variation of Devil Blaster in Tekken 5, named Hellfire Blast.
