The Deku Nut is an item from The Legend of Zelda series. These small items may look like food, but are actually a throwable item. Once thrown at an enemy, it will stun them for a brief moment.

Item description

Deku Nuts appear in the Nintendo 64 game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and it's direct sequel Majora's Mask, though in a different fashion. Deku Nuts takes the appearance of ordinary nuts except they are filled with a special substance that can stun an individual if the nut is damaged. Deku Nuts can be found mainly around the Kokiri Forest region. Deku Babas also emit Deku Nuts when they are defeated. Link can use the Deku Nuts to stun certain enemies in the game. Impa and Sheik also use a Deku Nut or an item similar to a Deku Nut to conceal their departure from a certain area. The Deku Nut also appears in Twilight Princess as a throwable object instead of an item that Link can collect. When the Deku Nut is thrown, it can contain rupees or hearts that Link can collect.

In Brawl

The Deku Nut is a type of explosive item in Brawl. If hit by it directly it explodes like a Bob-omb, doing relativly high damage and has a fantastic knockback. It is possible to be hit indirectly by a Deku Nut too. By thowing a Deku Nut short, it explodes in a flash of light. Any player around the blast site will become dazed (as if they had Shield Break). If the Deku Nut is left alone for too long it will start to expand and shrink rapidly. After a set time it will explode, dazing all around it. It will also explode if disturbed by damage. You can escape faster by button mashing.

Trophy description

Items that explode in a flash of blinding light shortly after they appear or when they take damage. Those caught in a blast will be dazed and immobile for a few moments. If the item is thrown, it has the same effect on whomever it hits. In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Deku Nuts stunned enemies and were indispensable when Link was surrounded.
