Crobat (クロバット, Kurobatto) is a fictional creature in the Pokémon media franchise.

Creature description

Crobat is a large purple four-winged bat with its wings arranged as a cross, and with its upper two wings larger than the lower two. As the Pokédex explains, its original hindlegs were grown into the second set of wings over the course of natural evolution as a result of its pursuit of faster, yet more silent, flight. As results, the nocturnal specie has vastly improved swift flying performance, and it flies so silently through the dark that it may not be noticed even when nearby - this it uses to sneak up on intended prey with barely a flapping sound. The main issue it has to contend with is that without definite legs and an extremely stubby extra pair of feet between its two lower wings, it is tough for it to be able to stop and rest, and it is clumsy at walking. Remedies for this include a flying technique where it flies with only its upper two wings for a while, then shifts the work into only flapping its lower two wings for another while, and alternating between the two pairs of wings - this allows it to fly all day without having to stop. It may also rest by hanging upside down on a tree branch with its lower wings.

It is the evolved form of Golbat, to whom its appearance is much different. In the Pokemon RPGs Crobat is essentially the same as Golbat but with much enhanced speed.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee

Crobat has made only one minor appearance.

As a trophy

Crobat features as a collectible trophy, unlocked as one of the 100+ trophies that can be collected randomly during normal play, such as in the Trophy Lottery and throughout the various Single-player Regular Matches. It reads as follows:

Crobat
[Pokémon Gold & Silver]

A bat Pokémon that evolves from Golbat. Crobat's hind legs have evolved into a second pair of wings, which allows it to fly at great speeds but limits its ability to rest. The affection a Golbat has for its trainer is vital for the evolution process: if a novice trainer has a Crobat, it shows that he or she cares for Pokémon well. 10/00
