In every Super Smash Bros. game so far, Kirby has had the ability to copy any other characters' standard-special move with his Neutral-B attack, Inhale. If another Kirby is swallowed, only damage is dealt, but Kirby can steal a copy ability off the enemy Kirby, if they had one. When Kirby copies one of his opponents, he will also bear a resemblance of that character in the form of a hat of some kind, which usually show a prominent part of the character copied, and often times mimics their voices/sounds. When performing copied attacks, Kirby will also use the same weapons and poses as their owners. When Kirby has the ability of any Standard Special Move that makes the player helpless in midair, (Giant Punch, Mach Tornado, PK Flash, PK Freeze; and Rollout in Melee) the same effect will happen to him.

Revision as of 15:27, 30 November 2018

This article is about Kirby's different Copy abilities in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. To see the other abilities from the other games, see Copy Abilities (SSB), Copy Abilities (SSBM), and Copy Abilities (SSBWU/3DS). To see the move, see Inhale.

When Kirby copies one of his opponents, he will also bear a resemblance of that character in the form of a hat of some kind, which usually show a prominent part of the character copied, and oftentimes mimics their voices/sounds. When performing copied attacks, Kirby will also use the same weapons and poses as their owners. When Kirby has the ability of any Standard Special Move that makes the player helpless in midair (Giant Punch, Mach Tornado, PK Flash, PK Freeze, and Rollout in Melee), the same effect will happen to him.

Kirby can choose to discard the ability at any time by using one of his taunts, though he may also lose it when taking damage. Below are Kirby's appearances when he copies the other characters in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Character Features Obtained Special Move Notes
Bowser Bowserkirby Bowser's hair, eyebrows, and horns Fire Breath While breathing fire, Kirby takes the pose of Fire Kirby from Kirby Super Star.
Captain Falcon Kfalconpunch C. Falcon's helmet (with transparent visor) Falcon Punch Kirby imitates the famous "Falcon Punch!" shout. This imitation has become famous in its own right. He can also perform the Reverse Falcon Punch.
Diddy Kong Kdiddy Diddy Kong's Nintendo cap Peanut Popgun
Donkey Kong Kdk Donkey Kong's fur and hair Giant Punch Since the move put Donkey Kong in helpless state when the attack is used in midair, Kirby is helpless after using the move in midair as well.
Falco Falcokirby Falco's beak, "mohawk", and reddish eye colouring Blaster Even in Brawl, Kirby has the same "mohawk" as Falco had in Melee, as opposed to Brawl where he has just a single point. The copied Blaster does not have the "electrifying" effect, that the original Blaster has. This attack is also similar to Kirby's Laser ability from certain games (except they can't bounce off slopes) - the same applies to Fox and Wolf's moves.
Fox Kfox Fox's ears and helmet Blaster
Ganondorf Kganon Ganondorf's hair, eyebrows, and head ornament Warlock Punch Kirby can also perform the Reverse Warlock Punch. Kirby also does the move with an amusing voice.
Ice Climbers Kpopo Popo's blue parka Ice Shot Less effective than the original since Kirby never has a partner. Also, the costume is identical to Freeze Kirby as he appeared in later Kirby games (not to be confused with Ice Kirby).
Ike Ikekirby Ike's hair and headband Eruption
Jigglypuff Kjiggly Jigglypuff's ears and hair tuft Rollout This Kirby hat is whatever colour Kirby is, instead of Jigglypuff pink. Also, Kirby says "Puu-rin!" for the move (Jigglypuff's Japanese name being Purin), regardless of the game being set to English.
King Dedede Kirbydedede King Dedede's hat Inhale Kirby can use this to perform the obscure "Kirbycide". Also, by copying this version of Inhale, Kirby can only spit his enemies out as stars, similar to the original Kirby's Dream Land.
Link Klink2 Link's floppy cap Hero's Bow Looks similar to Sword Kirby, since Sword Kirby is loosely based on Link.
Lucario Klucario A hat of Lucario's ears and "blindfold" Aura Sphere Kirby's Aura Sphere is not linked to his current damage like Lucario's. It stays about as powerful as a 70%-80% Aura Sphere from Lucario.
Lucas Klucas Lucas's hair PK Freeze After using the move in midair, Kirby becomes helpless.
Luigi Kluigi Luigi's cap Fireball
Mario KMario1 Mario's cap Fireball Kirby's arm is lower to the ground than Mario's, thus his fireball bounces sooner and more often, therefore traveling a shorter distance and disappearing faster. This limitation in distance is easily overcome if Kirby uses the fireball while aerial, however.
Marth Marthkirby Marth's hair and crown Shield Breaker
Meta Knight Mach Tornado Kirby Beginning SSBB Meta Knight's mask (with green eyes), and small wings. Mach Tornado Using the move in midair sends Kirby in a helpless state. This move is a reference to Kirby's Tornado ability in some of his games.
Mr. Game & Watch G&wkirby Mr. Game & Watch's colour palette of black with a grey outline; also has white eyes and mouth Chef
Ness Kness Ness's baseball cap PK Flash Kirby also does not wear the hat exactly as Ness does; he wears it backwards, whereas Ness wears it sideways. This may be a reference to Yo-Yo Kirby, Wheel Kirby, and/or Paint Kirby. Kirby also becomes helpless after using the move in midair.
Olimar Kolimar Olimar's large nose and helmet antenna Pikmin Pluck/Pikmin Throw Since Pikmin are completely tied into Olimar's moveset, Kirby cannot use Pikmin Pluck correctly. Instead, he plucks a Pikmin and immediately throws it. The Pikmin hits opponents for minor damage (1% Red, 2% Yellow, 3% Blue, 4% Purple, 5% White) and dies once it hits the ground.
Peach Kirbypeach Peach's crown Toad
Pikachu Kpika A hat of Pikachu's head and tail Thunder Jolt Kirby also imitates Pikachu's voice while using the move. In the Sound Test, this imitation appears as sound #25 in the Kirby's Copy Abilities sound effects library (a reference to Pikachu's national Pokédex number).
