Hero can have the menu active for ten seconds before disappearing; however if he is attacked before selecting the menu will disappear. Hero can cancel the menu at any time on the ground (by jumping, rolling or shielding) and in the air (by air dodging or double jumping if available). While Command Selection is active, MP will pause in refilling until a spell is used or unless it is interrupted by being cancelled or if Hero is attacked.

If the opposite direction is held while selecting a spell, Hero will cast the spell in the reverse direction, making it vital for attacking opponents behind Hero. In general, Sizz/Bang have the most chances of appearing, with Hocus Pocus having the least chances. Command Selection in general gives Hero a wide variety of attacking or buffing himself up, though the randomness of the spells appearing makes finding the correct spell difficult, making it vital for Hero to quickly react to the current selection and switch if necessary.

Command Selection is Hero's Down Special Move. Hero summons a menu from where a number of spells can be selected.
