Clay Shooting is Duck Hunt's Side Special Move. The dog throws a clay pigeon from his mouth, which will damage any opponent it hits, and if the button is pressed again, an unseen gunman will shoot the pigeon, causing a small explosion.
After hitting an opponent, the pigeon will fall to the ground. By pressing the B button, an unseen gunman will shoot at the pigeon, damaging the opponent when the disc is near them. Hitting an opponent with the disc and shooting it after it falls on the ground is a good multi-hit combo.
Clay Shooting can provide quick and long range pressure and damage. All three shots are quite easy to land as long as the disk is close to the enemy or hits them. Clay Shooting can interrupt enemy projectiles if it hits them, though the clay pigeon will be destroyed as well. An opponent hit by the pigeon will not be knocked far, so when a player presses the special attack button to make the Zapper shoot the pigeon, the opponent will be damaged by these shots as well. Also, a clay pigeon that comes to rest on the ground will remain an obstacle to opponents for a short time since the Zapper can still shoot it then.

A small, white disc used as a target in the Clay Shooting mode in Duck Hunt. In Smash Bros., Duck Hunt's default side special launches a clay pigeon through the air. It doesn't do much damage if it hits, but you can press the button again to shoot at it. The first two shots will narrowly miss, but you know what they say: "third time's a charm!"
This move is a reference to Game C in Duck Hunt, when clay pigeons that are fired away from the player's perspective into the distance.
