Claus

Claus is Lucas's older twin brother and appears in Mother 3. He appears in a very minor role in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Character description[]

Claus is the twin brother of Lucas and is very energetic and far more courageous than his twin. He disappears after chapter 1 of Mother 3 trying to avenge their mother's death, but ends up getting himself killed. He gets reanimated, reconstructed, and brainwashed by Pokey Minch, making him the Masked Man. It is shown through encounters with him that he has PK abilities like his twin brother, including the power to pull the Seven Needles. Near the end of the game he fights a one on one battle against Lucas, and later regains his sense of self and kills himself with his own signature lightning attack (using Lucas' own Franklin Badge to do so). He is modeled after Lucas and only differs in his hair color, orange shorts, and his teal-and-yellow striped shirt.

Two references to Claus appear in Brawl.

As an alternate costume[]

One of Lucas's alternate palette swaps does in fact give him the same hair and clothing color scheme as Claus, much like how one of Peach's costumes makes her look like Daisy. This makes Claus a "playable character" in a particular sense.

As a sticker[]

Claus as a character is depicted in a very minor format in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Claus appears as a randomly collectible sticker, depicting an enlargement of his original sprite from Mother 3. In Subspace Emissary the Claus sticker is usable on the trophy bases of Ness and Lucas, and it adds 13 to the PK attacks of the character it is used on. His sticker would be most recommended for Ness and Lucas.

Trivia[]

The name 'Lucas' is simply an anagram of his brother's name, 'Claus'.
