Angel, neutral, and Dark Chao.

Chao are small, cute creatures that appear in Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2. They could be raised on the Chao Garden and could later compete in various events. They can be raised in all Sonic Advance games as well, although with simpler methods. They could be interchanged between the Gamecube's Sonic Adventure DX, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and the GBA's Advance games. Depending on how you raise them, they will grow into a Light Chao, Dark Chao, or Normal/Neutral Chao. There is also the Chaos Chao, which is far more powerful then the normal Chao and never dies. The Chaos Chao also come in three different forms: Light Chao (neutral), Devil Chao, and Angel Chao. The only way to make a Chao a Chaos Chao is to have it reincarnated twice, have one of each animal, and have no chaos drives.

There are 75 forms in all. There are also 26 colors in all (excluding neutral and chaos colors), 13 being "shiny" colors. In the Dreamcast version, there are an additional 8 that are achieved by downloading them. A notable Chao is Cream the Rabbit's: Cheese, which happens to be a Neutral Chao. Cream always has it with her. She also has a Chao called Chocola, but it is rarely seen. Team Chaotix has had to hunt Chao in some of Sonic Heroes' stages. After that, the Chao were rarely seen in Sonic games.

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl

3 Chao appear as a sticker and many together as a trophy in the game.
