Blinky and the other three ghosts in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Blinky is a red ghost from the Pac-Man universe. He is one of Pac-Man's and Mrs. Pacman's arch-rivals and the de facto leader of the other ghosts Inky, Pinky, and Clyde. He debuted in Pac-Man, like the titular character himself. He has appeared in some later installments of the Super Smash Bros. series.
History[]
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U[]
Blinky and the other three ghosts in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
Blinky appears in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U in a number of roles, alongside the other three ghosts. Blinky and the other three ghosts are all part of an Assist Trophy, moving around in a similar manner as the original Pac-Man game, damaging opponents on contact, with Blinky in particular trying to take the shortest route to opponents. Blinky and the other three ghosts are also obstacles in the Pac-Maze stage in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS only and similarly retains his appearance and behavior from the original Pac-Man.
Blinky is included within a few of Pac-Man's moves. His Side Smash Attack summons Blinky directly ahead of him. Pac-Man's down taunt has him lie down while Blinky and Pinky swirl above his head.
There is an individual trophy of Blinky in both games, as well as a collective trophy for the ghosts.
Blinky also appears in Pac-Man's reveal poster, where he is headed up the northwestern portion of the Pac-Maze as Sonic is trying to balance himself near the ledge above Blinky.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]
Blinky being spawned from Pac-Man in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Blinky reprises his roles as part of the ghosts Assist Trophy and as part of Pac-Man's Side Special Move. The Assist Trophy's mechanics have been changed to allow the ghosts to be defeated. Blinky shares one pool of health with the other ghosts, with the final attack KOing only one of them, so if Blinky or another ghost is KO'd, the remaining three turn blue and leave early. Blinky and Pinky both no longer appear as part of Pac-Man's down taunt, as it now causes fairies from Pac-Land to appear instead.
Blinky is also part of a spirit for the entire group of ghosts. In the spirit battle, Blinky and the other three ghosts are represented by a Kirby of a corresponding color, with a red Kirby representing Blinky in particular. The red Kirby is also the main fighter for the group, reflecting Blinky's de-facto leadership of the ghosts.
