Balloon Fight is a stage that appears in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and returns in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The stage is based off of a few levels from the original game of the same name.
Overview
This stage has three different layouts with several platforms, Flippers, two clouds, a river containing The Fish, and the original 8-bit graphics similar to the Mario Bros. and 75m stage. Unlike with other stages, walking off the side of the screen will make you appear on the other side instead of self-destructing. This is a reference to the original Balloon Fight where the same thing would happen. Upon selecting the stage, one of the three layouts is randomly chosen. Flippers work similarly to how they did in Super Smash Bros. Melee; making contact with one will cause it to spin wildly launching everyone that touches it. Flippers do 1% to players that are hit by one. Two clouds that summon sparks also appear on each of the layouts. The sparks fly around the stage and bounce off of the platforms and blastzones. Players will take 5% of damage if they come in cotact with a spark. If a fighter touches the water on this stage, The Fish will attempt to grab them and drag them below the lower blastzone. It is possible to escape The Fish's grab by mashing buttons similarly to a normal grab. The Fish does 8% to every character it grabs.
Origin
In Balloon Fight, a player would control the balloon fighter who would fly around in a helmet with balloons strapped on. The goal of the game was to defeat all of the balloon birds to move on to the next level. There were also hazards that the player had to avoid. Flippers would bounce anything that touched them away in a random direction. Sparks would move slowly around the stage. If a player was hit by a Spark, they would die instantly. The Fish would eat the player if he/she fell into the water resulting in the player losing a life.
