Fox's Arwing in a cutscene from The Subspace Emissary.

The Arwing is the brand of one-man spaceship used by the eponymous mercenary team in the Star Fox series, and is featured in every Star Fox game. As such it has made appearances in all Smash Bros. games.

Vehicle description

The Arwing is the class of fighter spacecraft that is used in the Star Fox universe. The Arwing is the ship that Fox uses in the Star Fox game; it is a small ship that shoots out lasers. The Arwings that shoot at the Great Fox could either be Fox's team members or Fox himself if he isn't participating, but not Wolf O'Donnell or his team, Star Wolf, who uses distinctive yet similar rival attack ships named Wolfens.

In Super Smash Bros.

Arwings make one appearance in this game other than in being briefly seen in the game's opening movie:

As a stage element

Arwings appear in Super Smash Bros. as stage elements/obstacles in the Sector Z stage. They appear occasionally to fly around and shoot their laser beams. Any character that makes contact with the lasers take a decent amount of damage. The Arwings do not always shoot, but sometimes just fly over it instead. Characters can jump on the Arwing while it is flying over the Great Fox. If the Arwing flies off the screen, then that character that was on the Arwing will receive a Star KO. The Arwings do not specifically target anyone when they fire their lasers, instead going by their own patterns.

In Super Smash Bros. Melee

Arwings return with slightly more representation, in addition to being again sighted in the game's opening FMV:

As a stage element

Arwings appear in the Corneria and Venom stages, serving the same general functionality as they did in the previous game.

As a trophy

The Arwing features as a collectible trophy, unlocked as one of the 100+ trophies that can be collected randomly during normal play, such as in the Trophy Lottery and throughout the various Single-player Regular Matches. It reads as follows:

Arwing
The Arwing is the symbol of Star Fox. Like an F-Zero racer, it's equipped with an opposing-gravity device. It can barrel roll and flip with ease thanks to its quick acceleration and flexible control. In battle, the ship uses retractable wings for precise flying. Every Arwing has smart bombs as its sub-weapons. (Star Fox 09/93)

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Arwings make return appearances yet again:

As a stage element

Just like in the last two Smash Bros. games, Arwings appear as stage elements and hazards, in both the game's Star Fox stages: They are new in the Lylat Cruise, but return in the returning Melee stage Corneria.
