Amiibo-logo

Amiibo (Stylized as "amiibo") is the name given to figurines designed for use with the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U has been shown to be able to use these figures.

A player of either game can place an Amiibo figurine on the bottom left side of the Wii U Gamepad, and the Amiibo will be able to fight against the player or assist them in battles. For 3DS use, the player is able to buy an add-on to use Amiibo (or simply place them on the touch screen on the New Nintendo 3DS/XL).

Amiibo for all Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U fighters will be released, including DLC fighters.

Mechanics

The characters spawned by Amiibo have been compared to CPUs, as they both use AI. In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, players can train the figurines to be able to learn new fighting tactics. The Amiibo character will adapt to your play-style learning how to play against you. For example, if you always taunt after landing a KO, your Amiibo can learn to do the same; or if you always try to Meteor Smash opponents using risky tactics, the Amiibo will learn to do the same. In order words, the better the player, the better the Amiibo will become.

They are also programmed to detect and use items depending on your usage patterns. For example, if you always play matches without items and introduce items to them, they will be "confused" and "unaware" on how to use them.

The Amiibo will use the same moveset, and have the same stats as the character they are modeled after. However, you are able to change their stats by "feeding" them items. This will change their base stats depending on what the piece of equipment is. The maximum level an Amiibo can reach is 50.

Amiibos' interaction with a game may be either "Read/Write" or "Read Only". "Read/Write" will save certain game data directly to the Amiibo figure; however, each Amiibo can only hold data from one such game at time. If using the same Amiibo, new data from another "Read/Write" game can only be saved by deleting the data from the previous "Read/Write" game. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U is a "Read/Write" game. "Read Only" games scan the Amiibo to unlock additional in-game content and features, but do not save data to them. They can therefore be used repeatedly and on multiple "Read Only" games without affecting the Amiibo's saved data. Mario Kart 8 and Hyrule Warriors are "Read Only" games. Mario Party 10 has both "Read/Write" and "Read Only" capability, depending on which Amiibo are used.

Other Figures

Amiibo have been released for other Nintendo games, and some of these are compatible with Super Smash Bros.

Super Mario Amiibo

The Super Mario line of Amiibo function the same as the Super Smash Bros. line in the game as long as you are using a figure that has a corresponding fighter. They were released on March 20th, 2015 to coincide with the release of Mario Party 10. So far the only figure that doesn't work with Super Smash Bros. is Toad. A Silver Mario Amiibo was released on May 29, 2015.

Yoshi's Woolly World Amiibo

Similar to the Super Mario line of Amiibo, you can use any of your Yarn Yoshi Amiibo in the Super Smash Bros. game and it will function the same as a regular Yoshi Amiibo. However this line does not contain any characters not featured in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.

Skylanders Superchargers Amiibo

These series includes four Skylanders being Hammer Slam Bowser and Supercharged Donkey Kong along with their Dark forms. However, these two are special in that if their bases are twisted, they can enter amiibo mode and can be used for any game, including Super Smash Bros. , which is compatible with a Donkey Kong and Bowser amiibo.

Super Mario 30th Anniversary Amiibo

This series includes two Amiibo. They are 30th Anniversary Mario Classic Color and 30th Anniversary Mario Modern Color. They can be used for any game, including Super Smash Bros. , which is compatible with a Mario amiibo.

Specialized Amiibo

Amiibo game-watch

Some Amiibo have special features which other Amiibo do not have.

Mr. Game & Watch

Mr. Game & Watch's character model is very thin to mimic his 2-D appearance, and so it has several variations that can be switched in and out of the base at any time. Its variations are Mr. Game & Watch's Judge pose with him striking a number 9, his parachute pose and his trademark bell pose which was his profile pic pose for his two predecessors.

Mii Fighter

Each version of the Mii Fighter comes as their default appearance, but when they are read into the game, the player can customize their appearance and moveset as with regular Mii Fighters.

R.O.B.

The R.O.B. Figure is different based on the region he is from. His Amiibo colors match his regional artwork.
